What to do When My PC is Running Slow

Whenever you first get a computer it runs so fast and processes information so quickly that you are delighted and amazed by its speed. Then after you have had the computer for awhile it starts to slow down and it seems to take longer and longer for it to process the information that you are telling it. This leaves a lot of people with the question of what to do when my PC is running slow.

Most of the time your PC is running slower because you have put more data into the files and stored more pictures and videos. You probably have large volumes of music and things like this. Every bit of space that we use up on our drives slows the speed of our computer systems. One thing that you can do when your computer is running slowly is to remove some of the unnecessary data that you have stored. Just like you have to clean out your purse or clean out your wallet from time to time you need to clean out your files from time to time. All of these files need to be examined and delete the ones you no longer need. You also need to check and see how much of the data you have stored actually has a duplicate. Even if you need the file you do not need the duplicate.

Every time that we surf the web and look at different sites and do things on our computers online we leave traces of the sites we have visited. These traces or fragments can begin to slow our computers down and cause the running time to be slow. You have to defragment your computer on occasion. If you do not know how to perform this action you need to go to the control panel on your computer and select the disk defragmenter. If the disk defragmenter does not automatically show you can go to your search box on your computer and search the term defragment. This defragmentation will clear out all of those little pieces that you have collecting on your hard drives. Some computers automatically are set to defragment themselves but some computers need you to manually tell it to defragment. There will almost always be an option to analyze your computer before you defragment it. Always analyze the computer first to see if defragmenting will be necessary.

If you play a lot of games on your computer then your problem with your PC running slow may be the amount of storage your games are taking up. These downloads can take up a lot of disk space on your computer. Check all programs periodically to see if there are games on your computer or programs that you no longer use. If there are you can remove them and free up some additional space which will in turn make your personal computer run faster. You can also buy extra memory for your personal computer. When you purchase extra memory it is very important that you do not install more memory than the processor in your computer can handle. If you place too much memory in you can actually slow your machine down instead of increasing the speed.

You can consider upgrading your processor so that you have a personal computer that runs a lot faster. You will have to check into the type of computer you have and the age and style to see if this is possible and what to upgrade with. The manufacturer can always suggest what you can do in instances like this.

You may consider the fact that when your pc is running slow that you have picked up a virus, or a Trojan horse is running a program on your computer that you are not aware of. You can purchase products meant to scrub your computer of problems like these but be careful of the ones with free trials. They sometimes install their own virus on your computer. If you are considering using a product like these you will want to ask people you know and trust if they have ever used one or if they recommend one. You may also consider taking it into a shop and having a professional clean it up for you.
